Van Wilder/American Party, Van Wilder relations publiques

(American Party, Van Wilder, public relations)

Van Wilder is basically a teenage comedy with the only man who looks better with a beard than without: Ryan Reynolds.

I was going to be lazy and copy a summary from IMDB but will try to cut a long story short.

Van Wilder (Do we ever know his first name? Is his first name Van? Which makes me wonder about the Mario Brothers. Does that mean that their surname is Mario? Is Mario, Mario Mario? Err. Sorry about that).

Van Wilder is a mid 20s guy who should have graduated ages ago but has not. He enjoys college too much, apparently. But he is just afraid of graduating, and it needs a pretty girl for him to realise that.I can't remember why he starts organising parties – oh yes, his dad who is fed up with him not graduating stops giving him money, so he has to earn a living as he can and starts organising parties, because, being the coolest lad on campus, his parties are awesome.
That's what introduces the PR idea behind the French title.

What I don't get is the “American Party” bit of the title. Unless that was an omen for Miley Cyrus' song? This is a brilliant demontration of rule 1 applied in all its beauty (As a reminder, rule 1, or Paul Blart rule, reads “Part English, Part French, with some sort of explanation at what the film is about”)

Oh yeah, the film was funny. But for a good Ryan film, go try The Nines.
